Beyond the most fundamental human need of air to breath, water is the next basic resource we need to live! Yet sadly around 1 in 10 people don’t have clean water to drink and approximately 1 in 4 people don’t have access to basic sanitation.
The consequences are extremely wide reaching. Adults not being able to work and provide food for their family. Children too ill to go to school and impacting their chances of breaking out of poverty. Young girls spending their days collecting water, not getting an education and often getting married young and having children early! The suffering, pain, grief and anguish is harrowing!
Economically, for every $1 invested into providing clean water the ‘returns’ to the individuals, their families, local and national economies over time can be anywhere between $5-$30! So we’re a great supporter of organisations like Charity: water, yet we’re still a long long way off from solving the problem globally.
